No, I definitely haven’t run out of fall photos … but fall itself is just about over.
Below, one of my all-time favorite views from the east side of the Sandias. I take numerous photos here each summer because the clouds and their shadows are often quite spectacular. This particular photo has it all1 — clouds, shadows, and yellow aspens illuminated by the setting sun.
On the other side of the Sandias, in the Rio Grande bosque, I found a fallen cottonwood tree. It formed an arch and I spent an inordinate amount of time crawling around beneath it, using it as a frame for the glowing cottonwoods behind it.
It was one of those only-in-New-Mexico days when the sky was threatening rain and the sun was blasting through the trees. Cottonwoods are my favorite trees,2 and many of the reasons are visible here: their beautifully textured bark; their gorgeously backlit yellow leaves (which I love up close too); and especially their weird twisting trunks and limbs.
In my ever-so-humble opinion of course.
It is possible that I love coast redwoods even more but sadly, they aren’t part of my everyday world, whereas cottonwoods most definitely are.
such beautiful images
Never too many Fall Cottonwood pix! ❤️
