The scrub oak was just starting to turn in the Sandias a few days ago.
And purple asters — the surest sign that fall is imminent — are abundant at the moment. The red background in the photo below is fetid goosefoot, which is so much prettier than it sounds.
Here’s another image of purple asters in which I completely blew the focus. Usually I delete photos like this immediately, but I kinda liked the blur of colors in this one. (If you have a strong reaction to it, one way or another, please let me know.)
All of these photos were taken within the past week, well within a mile of one another, on the east side of the Sandias.
