Mother Nature is putting on an outstanding show this year. Showy goldeneyes generally pop up all over the Sandias toward the end of the summer — but seldom in as outrageous abundance as they have this year.
Purple asters also show up in late summer and stick around into early fall. There’s something about them that makes me really happy, although I couldn’t tell you what or why. And this year — this amazing year — I’ve seen numerous monarch butterflies browsing amongst them. I don’t recall ever seeing monarchs in the Sandias before.
Not to mention that never ever have I seen such a large hillside in the Sandias covered with a) so many wildflowers and b) so many different wildflowers.
I truly don’t expect to live long enough to see anything like this, at least in my little corner of the world, ever again.
Lisa, with climate change, we may very well see more things like these Monarchs as migration patterns may change along with the climate. Just my humble opinion.
