I went by the “bird log” on the east side of the Sandias a few weeks ago to see what might be passing through. Between my poor vision and general lack of bird knowledge, bird log outings are usually pleasant little interludes punctuated by frequent thoughts of “What was that?” and “Darn, I missed the shot.”
This time, I saw a yellow warbler right away and somehow managed to get the shot. Warblers are incredibly fast little birds; I’ve missed many more shots of them than I’ve nailed.
Next up was a red-breasted nuthatch who got fairly close and wasn’t too skittish. Nuthatches hold a special place in my heart, likely because they were one of the first birds I could identify without looking at a guide.
These two were actually the not-so-colorful visitors to the bird log that day. Stay tuned for photos of their more colorful kin.
You're already a better birder than some "real" birders :-)
These two are certainly colorful enough! Beautiful little creatures. Nuthatches are always so enchanting when they go down a tree headfirst. :)
