The pasqueflowers have already gone to seed on the east side of the Sandias, just three weeks after I saw the first bud. I love the initial stage of their decomposition, when grass appears to grow right out of their centers.
Below, the eastward view from the first saddle on the Embudo Horse Bypass Trail. Embudo means “funnel” in Spanish; this photo was taken from the very narrowest part of the funnel. I love the contrast in color between the coniferous and deciduous trees and bushes.
I spotted a small blue flower close to the ground at the northern end of the Sandias last week. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen it before; I believe it’s called bluebowls. The yellow flowers are some kind of bladderpod.
It’s great to finally see abundant evidence of spring.
