The winter of 2006-2007 was quite extraordinary here in Albuquerque. It was cold and it snowed — a lot. There was one storm, between Christmas and New Year’s, that dropped almost a foot of snow. Then it snowed some more.
The entire city completely shut down. I was on vacation at the time and didn’t have to commute, so I went out to play and hike in the snow every day. Of course I took lots of photos too.
All of which is to say that, come winter solstice, I always start to wonder if this will be the year we get snow like that again. Since the Sandias have only just barely been dusted with snow at this point, that’s not likely. Still … hope springs eternal.
Happy winter solstice.
Peace on this Winter Solstice day!
One of my two favorite days of the year - summer and winter solstice - winter as it portends lighter days, and summer as it is the day of the longest light. Let there be light! Such a gorgeous photo - blades of grass piercing the snow- the light is perfect!
