Late afternoon summer thunderstorms often include rainbows. As a confirmed fair-weather photographer, I’ve made a practice of keeping a close eye on the weather conditions from the comfort of my cozy, dry home. When a rainbow makes an appearance, I quickly run out with a camera, take a few photos, then run right back in.
The clouds that accompany thunderstorms also make for interesting sunset colors, usually in the west but occasionally in the east as well.
One of the most interesting rainbows I’ve ever seen was the double below. I can’t for the life of me figure out what created the diagonal block of darkness that brought both rainbows to an abrupt end. Usually rainbows tend to fade into the sky. I keep wondering: Was it a cloud that obscured the rainbows’ ends? Only clouds don’t usually have straight edges. So was it a trick of the light? A sheet of rain? I still don’t know the answer. I’m happy I caught the moment though.
Skies! The various colors & conditions that you capture so artistically! Gorgeous!
