Everyday magic can be described loosely as things or actions that are so commonplace that we normally don’t even notice them. When we slow down enough to really see, hear or otherwise sense them, we give ourselves the opportunity to realize how incredibly magical they actually are.

My primary engagement with everyday magic is through photography.

Many of my subjects are in the natural world, which is where I find numerous examples of everyday magic. The truth is that a) I’ll photograph anything that slows down long enough for me to get the shot and b) everyday magic is found everywhere, not only in all-natural settings. You might receive photos of wild birds or old gas stations, wildflowers or Christmas lights, and/or whatever else happens to strike my fancy.

If you feel hesitant about further crowding your inbox, take a look at the Everyday Magic archive to get a better idea of what you’ll begin to receive in your email.

It’s all about light and color

As a general rule, I’m drawn to scenes with bright colors. Flowers, butterflies, and other critters are frequent subjects. I think of myself as an amateur naturalist, with the emphasis on amateur. My IDs may be incorrect, even grossly incorrect. Please don’t take them as gospel.

It’s really easy

Just open the email and look at the picture(s). If you don’t have the time or desire to read the explanations, please understand I’ll be the last person offended. I like to think my photos tell enough of the story on their own, without words.
